This week in class we are learning about role fluency plays with word recognition and reading comprehension while also discussing classroom activities and strategies to help students understand language structures, verbal reasoning, and literary knowledge.

Language Structure: Complex system that combines the use of semantics and syntax to create human language.

Verbal Reasoning: Communicate and reason through the use reasoning presented through written language and verbal conversations.

Literacy Knowledge: Students being able to understand the meaning and purpose of the way printed language is presented in books and reading passages.

Syntax: Rules and regulations set in written language that lay out the way that words and phrases are put together to convey meaning.

Figurative Language: The use of words to communicate meaning that diverges from the typical meaning of words or phrases.

Imaginative/Literary Text: Written language that strays away from concrete facts and focuses more on the author’s ability to present creative thoughts and ideas through words and pictures to convey meaning.

Semantics: Specific aspect of language structure that looks at the relationship between words and the ideas and meaning that develop through thoughts.

Literal Language: The use of words to communicate ideas with the definition of the word being used as intended.

Informational/Expository Text: Written language that depicts accurate information through the use of factual information presented without additional tone/structures.
