During this week, we are tasked with creating a visual chart that shows teachers with strategies with activating background knowledge and effectively teaching vocabulary!

Background Knowledge: The presence of past content and information that can be used to help students understand new concepts by relating it to themselves or the world they live in.

Text-to-self, text-to-world and text to text strategies: These reading strategies help students to connect with text with relating information to their own experiences, real-world experiences, and previous background knowledge from additional texts.

Vocabulary: Crucial component of understanding language that includes students being able to recognize the spelling of new vocabulary and understanding the meaning of each word in text.

Comprehension: Students’ ability to decode and break down individual words within sentences and being able to identify their significance in relaying meaning from the text.
